Tell me about your tubs!

"People tubs" may be cute, but dog's aren't people (hard to believe at times, we know).

Joking aside, this is a serious issue not to be ignored. People bathtubs have rounded corners, which cause a pup to slip, slide and scramble as they try to gain their footing. They are also open on all sides, which naturally prompts your pup to be distracted in every direction. Simply, they are not designed to care for pups, and can cause significant distress, requiring a grooming lead around your dog's neck at all times to reduce the risk of your pup trying to jump out of the tub.

Our patented, walk-thru tub system was designed by Mudpuppy's, and is the result of years of experience in the pet industry. Thankfully, more and more dog washing facilities are trading people tubs for professionally designed systems to better care for their canine clients. In fact, the Mudpuppy's system is made available to other dogwash companies around the country.

Do I need an appointment?

Nope.  Just drop in for any wash and/or nail trim.  That said, if you know when you'd like to come in for a wash, an appointment guarantees you'll get the exact time slot you want (strongly urged on weekends).  Nail trim only?  Drop in whenever.

Grooming appointments are a different story.  Appointments are generally required to get in for a haircut, however there are occasional openings for walk-ins.  Call or book online to secure your date.

Do you use "green" products on my pup?

Of course!  We use nothing but the highest quality, eco-friendly products.

I see you charge for your services by dog size. What size is my dog?

Unfortunately there's not a simple answer or formula to answer this question. The size of your dog, for our purposes, depends on not only weight, but on coat length and its condition as well. For instance, the impressive height and stance of a Great Dane can make a German Shepherd look almost petite, but for us they are both considered "Large" in terms of washing size due to the relative differences between size, weight and, most importantly, coat length.

How long will Fido's bath take?

This depends on what services you have requested.  For a basic wash, your pup will generally be done in 15-20 minutes.  As you add services, the time increases.  Grooming appoinments are typically 2 to 2.5 hours.

Do you use cage dryers during grooming?

Absolutely not.  Our dogs are towel dried first, and then gently air dried and kept warm.  Cage dryers are, in our opinion, not a very caring approach to taking care of your loved ones.  And, at our Chestnut location, our holding areas in the windows feature thermostatically controlled radiant floor heating to keep your pup cozy and warm until your return.

What are the benefits of regular bathing & grooming?

Owning a pet has many rewards, but with the joys come responsibilities, especially with pet grooming. Here are some of the most tangible benefits of bathing and grooming your pup that should be performed on a regular basis, benefiting the pet, protecting the home and living with others.

  • Health. Regular brushing not only promotes a healthy coat, it also reveals problems with the skin. The skin is a major indicator of the pet’s overall health. Finding ticks, scratches or bite wounds helps owners seek appropriate treatment before the problems become more severe. Dry or flaking skin may indicate allergies or medical problems.

  • Comfort. Fur mats are uncomfortable for pets. Routine brushing minimizes the possibility of the fur clumping, especially for long-haired cats and dogs.

  • Appearance. A groomed pet always looks better than one with a tangled, dirty or shabby coat.

  • Pest control. Regular grooming reveals problems with fleas, which breed quickly indoors and infest other pets or people. Fleas can transmit diseases.

  • Home maintenance. When dog or cat claws become too long, they can snag carpeting and furniture or scratch wood floors. A pet with trimmed claws is also more comfortable to hold, since sharp claws can scratch skin.

  • Dental health. Keeping a pet’s teeth clean with a brush or plaque removers increases the pet’s comfort and long-term dental health. A healthy mouth promotes good overall health and is an essential part of pet grooming.

  • Vision improvement. Some breeds of dogs like Lahso Apsos have long hair that hangs over their eyes. Clipping the fur that might impede their vision helps them navigate better.

  • Courtesy to others. A smelly cat or dog isn’t something that most people can tune-out. Owners grow accustomed to the scents of their pets, but visitors may not appreciate the natural smell of the animal. While masking the odor with perfumed scents is likely to irritate the animal, fragrance-free wet or dry shampoos are available.
